-
When I start Winamp it's playlist is empty - how do I shuffle through
all my music?
MinkSonic determines the next song to play when the end of the
Winamp playlist has been reached.
MinkSonic automatically shuffles through all the songs in the
jukebox when there are no pending requests.
The Winamp playlist is now only useful to see what songs have just
played.
-
How come the "Shuffle" and "Repeat" buttons in Winamp no longer work?
MinkSonic determines the next song to play when the end of the
Winamp playlist has been reached. If "Shuffle" and "Repeat" are
turned on, Winamp will jump around within the playlist so you will
continually hear the songs that have already been played.
MinkSonic automatically shuffles through all the songs in the
jukebox when there are no pending requests.
This has been fixed in version 0.80.
The buttons are now only disabled & and shut off when MinkSonic
is running.
-
What should I start first, MinkSonic or Winamp?
The Winamp plugin will automatically start an instance of MinkSonic
if it can't find one already running.
As of version 0.80, MinkSonic is
no longer automatically started when Winamp starts. Therefore, when
you want jukebox behavior you will need to start MinkSonic, either
before or after starting Winamp.
-
When I press play in Winamp, a dialog pops up asking me to open some
files, rather than getting tracks to play from MinkSonic. How do I
get around this?
This is a known bug that will be fixed in a future release.
Generally you will only notice this behavior when there were no
songs available in MinkSonic when Winamp was started. To correct
the problem, scan some files into MinkSonic and then press the
'Next Track' button and then the 'Play' button in Winamp.
This has been fixed in version 0.81.
Pressing play will now cue a song in winamp if winamp's playlist is
empty.
-
How come artist name & title is truncated to 30 characters in
Winamp's display?
Winamp uses the names stored within the MP3 file's ID3 tag for
it's display. And even though the artist name, album name, song title,
etc. are not restricted to 30 characters within MinkSonic, the ID3
tag format restricts these names to 30 characters.
ID3v2 tags are now supported as of
version 0.85. ID3v2 tags do not have
the 30 character limitations that ID3v1 tags have.
-
Can the MinkSonic Jukebox read/write ID3v2 tags (which do not have
the 30 character limit) from/to my MP3's?
The current version only supports ID3v1.1 tags. Support for ID3v2
is planned for a future release.
ID3v2 tags are now supported as of
version 0.85.
-
Sometimes when I try to have MinkSonic rename my MP3 files based on
the artist & title, the filename doesn't change. What am I doing wrong?
MinkSonic will not rename a file if the target filename already
exists. This prevents accidental loss of data in the case where you
have two versions (i.e. different bitrates) of the same song in the
same directory.
-
How does the "Tools/Fix Errors" feature work?
Any frames for which the "Tools/Scan for Errors" feature produces an
error or warning are removed from the file, leaving only the good
frames and the ID3v1.1 tag.
-
The "Tools/Scan for Errors" has resulted in various errors and/or
warnings. Should I use the "Tools/Fix Errors" to fix them?
The errors and/or warnings can be repaired without producing any
difference in the audio since the decoders in most MP3 players
should skip the bad frames anyway. But since the absence of the
frames result in tiny "skips" it would be best to re-rip/re-encode
the MP3 from CD; or download it again. If the errors are at the
very beginning or the very end of the song where there is usually
a second or so of silence, the "skips" will not be noticed.
If you plan to burn the music to CD, I have found that it is a
good idea to remove any bad frames first, since they often result
in playback problems for CD players.
A "plain english" version of the error/warning messages is planned
for a future release.

How do I use the web browser interface?
The web server must be enabled since it is off by default. Click on
the "Web Server" tab in the "Tools/Options" dialog. Checking "enabled"
will enable the web server. You have to click "OK", dismissing the
dialog for the changes to take affect. Now pointing your web browser
on your local machine to "http://localhost" will display the web
interface.
A button ("Tools/Web Interface") to launch the web browser with the
correct URL was added in
version 0.86. The button is
greyed-out when the Web Server is disabled.
The web server is enabled by default starting in
version 1.0.
-
How do I use the web interface from another machine on my network?
Make sure "enabled" and "public" are checked in the "Web Server" tab
in the "Tools/Options" dialog. When "public" is turned on, any
web browser on the network will be able to access the jukebox.
The checkboxes are now called "Enable Web Interface" and "Allow
Access From Other Computers" as of
version 1.0.
